3 possible result styles from this tutorial:
Needed:
Skill Level: Intermediate
Paint Shop Pro 8
Plugins:
EyeCandy4000…Drip and Jiggle
Vismans VM Filters/Extravaganza/Shoutin’!...
Texturizer/Sandstone..or others
Preparation: You need to make a header section
1024 x 300 pixels.
Methods of doing this might include:
(a) Cropping a section of a graphic and resizing.
(b)Taking a section of a graphic, resizing to 512x300,
copying, doubling the canvas size width to the right
side, pasting as a new layer, mirroring and using the
mover tool to slide them into position and finally
layers/merge visible.. this is my favorite method at this
time.
(c)You could also just open a 1024x300 canvas , fill with
color, pattern, texture etc and use tubes and text to
create your header.
Tip: One of our testers used a water effect
on the bottom section of her header and
it looked very cool with the drip effect.
You might like to try Almathera puddle
filter or some other effect on a selection
at the bottom of your header for a really
kewl variation.
1 Edit/Copy or (Ctrl + C) … the header that you
have made.
It should be at least 1024 x 300.
Minimize it .
2 Open a New transparent image 1024 x 665
3 Selection Tool/Custom Selection
:
Note:In Paint Shop Pro7 double click the
Settings:
Top = 0, Left = 0, Right = 1024, Bottom = 300
OK
4 Edit/Paste into Selection or (Ctrl + Shift + L)
5 Selections/Select None or (Ctrl + D)
6 Custom Selection again:
Top = 285, Left = 0, Right = 1024, Bottom = 300
OK!
7 Effects/Plugins/EyeCandy4000/Jiggle
The object here is to slightly warp the selected
area…various effects could be used as a
substitute.
8 Effects/Plugins/EyeCandy4000/Drip
9 Selections/Select None or (Ctrl + D)
10 Selections/Select All or (Ctrl + A)
11 Magic Wand Tool:
Be sure your Mode is “REPLACE”
Left click on your header image. The marching ants
will now surround your header image…drips and all.
12 Effects/3D effects/Inner Bevel
Bevel #2, Width = 8
Smooth = 10, Depth = 1
Amb & Shin = ZERO
Color = White, Angle = 315
Intensity = 50, Elevation = 30
Effects/3D effects/Drop Shadow
Vert = 9, Horiz = 0, Opacity = 23,
Blur = 15.00
Color = Black
13 Selections/Select None or (Ctrl + D)
14 Dropper Tool or (E)
Select a color to make your background color .
Keep in mind that this will be the color that text
will be written on & should be a color that goes
nicely with your header.
15 Layers/New Raster Layer
16 Flood Fill Tool: Fill the new layer with
your chosen color.
17 Layers/Duplicate
18 Effects/Plugins/VM Extravaganza/Shoutin’!...
OK !
19 Magic Wand Tool:
20 Select the white area…not the slats!
21 On your keyboard press the Delete Button
This erases the white area around the slats and
leaves that transparent .. what you will see will be
the fill layer underneath .
22 Selections/Invert
23 Apply a subtle texture here of your choosing.
From what I have tried less is more. Dramatic
effects will make the text harder to read with the
finished stat. Texturizers Sandstone is one good one.
You decide!
Remember that this will be part of the background
and should not be a focal point visually.. hope this is
clear?!
24 Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel
25 Effects/3D Effects/ Drop Shadow
Same as you used in step 12
26 Selections/Select NONE or (Ctrl + D)
Optional: If you have ICNET Filters 2 you can use
the Distortion filters to give your slats unique shapes.
Can be very cool!
You may also need to erase the little
black outlines of the original oblong
shapes that are left with your eraser.
Zoom in to do a more accurate job.
27 Layers/New Raster Layer
28 (S) Selections Tool/
Custom Selection :
Top = 300, Left = 0, Right = 1024, Bottom = 665
29 Now we are going to put the original header that
you made into this selection.
You may or may not have to copy it again to do this.
Anywho……
Edit/Paste into selection or (Ctrl + Shift + L)
30 Selections/Select NONE or (Ctrl + D)
31 Layers/Arrange/Move Down
Now your slats will be showing on top!
32 On your layers palette slide the opacity bar to the
left until you can just barely see the header you just
pasted.
33 Click on the bottom layer..(The real Header) in your
layers palette and
Layers/Arrange/Bring To Top!
34 This step is optional. Up to you!
Click where it says Normal on your header layer
and change it to Luminance (L) or Legacy or
another layer mode of your choice.
Not neccesary but an option.
This will give your stat a unique appearance and will
also lower the load size dramatically since most of the
colors are eliminated.
Note: In some cases depending on the color
combinations of your header the slat outlines
may show through on your header sometimes.
Look for this on light colors schemes. Undo!
Try a different mode possible or just leave it
the original normal mode if this occurs.
35 Layers/New Raster Layer….add your watermark
The kind of water mark I use which is not a clear one
as many use, I like to change the layer mode to
Luminance (L) too so each stat I do like this it blends
nicely with the color theme.
36 Layers/Merge Visible
37 Save as a JPEG

Letter Creator tips:
1 Put this on the Body Page, do not tile.
2 Set the Top Margin at about 320.
3 Use the Dropper tool at the top and select the basic
overall color from your graphic. This will fill in any
gaps such as is sometimes seen in IM at the very top
when you are about to write a letter on your
stationery.
4 Use your Text eyedropper tool and select the same
color , then open the Text color box and on the right
Slide the slider up to make your text color lighter or
down to make it darker. That way your text color will
Match nicely with your stat color.
5 Image Position: I use Center and Top.

Hope you like this style of mine. WEEeeee!
