EZ  Scrolling Double Border

HootyTut© by Doyle Allen aka Hooty  4/25/04

Goal above shown small.

Approved by the HootyTutTestersGroup!

Both Borders will be visible on any

monitor that is set up at 1024 x 768

Screen Resolution.

What you need:

PSP

No plugins are used!

A large graphic at least as big as 800x600

It should be wider than it is in height.

A lot of detail will most likely get you the best results.

A lot of solid color areas will create dead spots which

you probably won’t like in the finished results.

Tip: This can be a cool way to make family

oriented stationery with any big photos

of your family that you may have.

1 Open your large graphic

2 Edit / Copy

3 File / New

 Width = 1005, Height = 672 pixels, Transparent

The rest of the settings should already be default

and what we want to use.

Note: You might like to save these settings for any

future Scrolling stationery that you may want to do

in the future.

OK

4 You will need to select a solid Foreground color.

I would suggest that you use my setting the first time

just so you see how it all comes together at the end.

HTML = #F7F5DD

You can pick one using the Dropper Tool (E) and

choose one off your original graphic or any other method.

As you will see this will be the majority of the

background color which will need to be text friendly

when you use it as stationery.

I have found that tinted whites often give

the desired results.

Some of the testers had success using

double shaded gradients as the fill

although the shades were darker they

made their text a light shade and that works

too!

5 (F) Flood Fill Tool:

Fill layer with this solid color.

6 Layers / New Raster Layer

Tip! If you hold your shift key down you will avoid the

pop up box when you select New Raster Layer.

7 Ctrl + A (Selections/Select All)

8 Ctrl + Shift + L  (Edit / Paste / Paste into Selection)

9 Ctrl + D  (Selections / Select None)

10 Layers / Duplicate

11 (S)   Selection Tool / Custom Selection

Click on the Custom Selection icon on your settings

bar up top.

Settings:

Left = 30, Top = 0, Right = 975, Bottom = 672

OK

12 Press Delete on your keyboard

Note: This will appear to do nothing but

actually it has removed the selected area

on this layer and now exposes the layer

underneath which looks the same. tee-hee

13 Change the Layer Mode on the Raster 2 layer from

“Normal” to “Overlay”

Possible last changes that you might

make at this part of the tutorial.

Play with the Opacity settings on both the

Color Fill Layer and Graphic layers until

you get a nice result that will be nice to

write on as a background.

Raster Layers 1 and 2.

You can change the color fill to other

colors to see if there is something you like

better too.

14 Layers / Merge / Merge Visible

15 Effects / Edge Effects / Enhance More

Note: Sometimes this can be used as a replacement

for FM Tiles Tool plugin Blend Emboss effect! Kewl!

16 Ctrl + Shift + i  (Selections / Invert)

17 (F) Flood Fill Tool: Fill your borders.

This is what your small border edges are going to be after a little manipulation. So fill with whatever you want them to be.

This time I am using a gold pattern fill. You decide

for yourself what you would like.

Tip: If you have Match Mode = None, then both

borders will fill at the same time!

18  Selection / Modify / Contract = 4  OK

19 Ctrl + Shift + L  (Edit / Paste / Paste into Selection)

We are pasting the graphic into the borders.

Alternatives that you might use would be

to fill with patterns of different sorts

instead or use a SBP preset etc.

  Texture Effects/Blinds using Vertical and

changing the color to a little darker shade

of the same color looks cool too.

Seen some good results from just filling

with a solid color and skipping steps 21 &

22 too!  Up to you...make it pretty!

20 Ctrl + Shift + P

(Selections / Promote selection to Layer)

21 Effects / Distortion Effects / Pixelate

Settings:

Block width = 75, Block height = 5

Of course symmetric is unchecked.

22 Effects / Edge Effects / Enhance

Repeat this step if you like the effect better

but with "Enhance More"!

You might want to zoom in to see what it

will look like at full size.

Ctrl + Alt + N  (View/Zoom/Zoom to 100%)

Ctrl + Shift + A  (View/Full Screen Preview)

23 Ctrl + Shift + P

(Selections / Promote selection to Layer)

24 Effects / 3D Effects / Cutout

Settings:

Vertical & Horizontal both at 2

Opacity = 100, Blur = 15, Color = Black

Fill interior with color Unchecked.

OK

25 Ctrl + D  (Selections / Select None)

26 Layers/Merge/Merge All (flatten)

27 Add your watermark if you like and

Save as a jpg

Letter Creator Tip

Put your creation in on the Body Page, the tile feature should not be activated!

Margin Settings on the Body page:

Top, Left And Right should all be set at 30!

Remember to Watermark your creations!

Thanks to all the great testers that help me to

make these tutorials as good as they are!

The testers are always a vital part of the end

results of what you end up using.

Special thanks to all the testers:

Here are some of the results from the testers!

Jacqueline, omi & Jynx also participated.
